چکیده
Drawing on the rich tradition of investigations into linguistic inequality, this paper seeks to define phenomenon pretextual gaps, i.e. socially anchored and often invisible differences between what is expected in communication people can bring deploy communication. Pretextual gaps refer conditions sayability, differential distribution access these conditions, social evaluations attached such differences. We shall investigate three sets data, all them instances experiential narration: Asylum seekers’ narratives, hand-written life histories from Shaba, Congo, narratives suffering produced during hearings Truth Reconciliation Commission South Africa. will attempt demonstrate how a fine-grained discourse analysis focused resources models deployment refine existing views inequality.

The Errors of Karen Franklin's Pretextuality
In her recent article, Hebephilia: Quintessence of Diagnostic Pretextuality (published in Behavioral Sciences and the Law, 2010), Karen Franklin expands on her previous argument that psychologists and psychiatrists should not diagnose as abnormal hebephilia, the sexual preference for early pubescent children. She supports her argument with a series of claims about the contents of the empirical ...
متن کاملMorality and pretextuality, psychiatry and law: of "ordinary common sense," heuristic reasoning, and cognitive dissonance.
The thesis of this paper is that we will not make significant progress in understanding the tensions between the legal and mental health systems until we look carefully at a series of dissonances that affect both systems. We must consider the way that the law frequently condones pretextuality as a way of dealing with troubling or cognitively dissonant information, and the way that mental health...
متن کاملScaffolding Comprehension and Recall Gaps: Effects of Paratextual Advance Organizers
Although filling the gap in reading comprehension gained momentum with the rise of the top-down approach, Vygotsky’ concept of scaffolding and the dual code theory provided a strong support for the use of paratext to enhance comprehension. Scaffolding is dependent on other-regulation, one type of which is object-regulation. From this vantage-point, various types of paratext can function as sou...
متن کاملRab GEFs and GAPs.
Rabs are GTP-binding proteins with conserved functions in membrane trafficking. They are regulated by a diverse group of structurally unrelated GDP-GTP exchange factors (GEFs), and a family of GTP-hydrolysis activating proteins (GAPs) containing the conserved TBC domain. Recent structural and cell biological studies shed new light on the mechanisms of Rab GEF and GAP action, and the cellular tr...
